We spend the rest of the day looking for aquatic birds, and cruising on the Lake Victoria shores, evenings are for cocktail as we wait for the sundowner and that golden hour before we go back to our lodge in Entebbe
On this day, after our morning breakfast, we transfer to Kibale National Park, driving for 4 hours from Entebbe and escaping the city chaos to one of the tropical rainforests of Uganda which is the home to 13 primate species, Kibale National park is a birders paradise, so we will use good of our afternoon by visiting the Bigodi swamp, a walk organised by the community around the National park, money collected here goes back to helping the community, the three-four hour trek through the forest offers an opportunity to sight forest species including the Albertine endemic breen breasted pitta, look out for the shinning blue kingfisher, and a chance to sight the great blue and Ross’s Turaco, Bigodi swamp also hosts anumber of primate species like the black and white colobus monkey, red colobus monkey, red tailed, the Uganda mangabey among others, we return back to our lodge for dinner and camp fire
On this day, we wake up for breakfast and get ready to join others for briefing about the do’s and Don’t’s when with the chimpanzees, and then set off to the forest tracking the chimpanzees, our closest cousins sharing at least 94% DNA with humans, sociable, communicative and intelligent. They hold hands, kiss, groom each other and baby sit each other’s offspring’s, and be sure to capture the moments. After Chimpanzees tracking you are awarded with a certificate.
We will then later transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park, a 2 hour drive will take us to Mweya the center of the park, ready for the 3 pm boat cruise on the Kazinga channel, a cruise down the channel is the most relaxing way to enjoy wildlife safari in Queen. The banks are crammed with hippos, buffaloes and water birds, along with caimans, monitor lizards, elegant pairs of fish eagles, elephants stride along the banks. All you need to do is sit back with your camera at ready and enjoy the incredible spectacle.
On this day we wake up early enough to catch up the sunrise over the Kazinga channel as we have our early breakfast before driving to the southern sector of the park to look for the tree climbing lions, The lions of Ishasha has for generations been climbing trees, reasons as to why they climb the trees are not so clear but some scholars have it that it’s because of the biting tsetse flies on the ground, others say they climb to have a better view of their prey but all in all the nature of the acacia trees which are comfortable sofa could also be one of the reasons.
After our morning breakfast, we drive for 15 minutes to the park headquarters to join the rest for briefing about the Do’s and Don’t’s when with the gentle Giants, Bwindi Impenetrable forest lies in the south western Uganda on the edge of the rift valley. Its mist covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests, it contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously this Impenetrable national park protects an estimated 589 mountain gorillas roughly half of the world’s total population. Tracking the gorillas in dense hilly forests requires one to be fit enough and it’s so rewarding watching the gorillas feed, groom and play with young ones.
The endangered golden monkey is endemic to the Albertine rift, and Mgahinga gorilla national park offers a rare chance to track those striking creatures, high in the dense bamboo forests on the Gahinga trail. You would really love photographing this beautiful monkey.
